Q2)- Examples

  1. The iPhone 5

The better looking mobile does not necessarily have the best options available and the most advanced features. The example used here is that of an iPhone 5. When the iPhone 5 was released in 2012, it was not the most advanced one on the market. The competition had better specs. For instance, Samsung mobile phones had

higher resolution screens, expandable memory, and a more open software experience through the Android operating system. However, Apple’s reputation as a company which pays attention to the details of the design of its products makes the iPhone 5 th

e more desirable smartphone (Snickars & Vonderau, 2012). This was the case even though it was, at the time of release, the technically inferior product.

  1. The Ferrari

As a car, the Ferrari performs the same function as its cheaper counterparts, which is a form of personal transportation. However, the design of this iconic brand appeals to the

senses of those who can afford it and those who can’t alike. A normal family sedan may be better at doing its job as a car, with the correct number of doors and average fuel economy. However, as the Ferrari is a better looking car with an unprecedented level of

attention to detail during its manufacture (Albus, Kras, & Woodham, 2004), the aesthetic useability effect applies as users tend to ignore the flaws of the car as a practical machine and focus on what they can like about it.

  1. The Stiletto heels

The example used here is that of the stiletto ladies’ shoes. Most users would choose to

wear these purely due to the way they look. The design of these shoes is not necessarily the most comfortable or functional(Attfield & Kirkham, 1989). Their use may actually cause physical pain. However, users would choose these solely with design and aesthetic considerations in mind.
